Predictive Text Stopped Learning After iOS16

Hi there. Ever since updating to iOS 16 (on both my iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max) my predictive text does not work as it used to. It doesn't seem to be learning from me as I type.

For example, the only words suggested to me each time I begin typing are "I", "The" and "I'm" even though I don't use these often to start typing. Before, at least "Hey" would be one of the options as I use this frequently. But now, it seems no matter how many times I type "Hey" to start typing... it never defaults as one of the first words to choose from.

I have turned predictive text on/off many times. I have reset the keyboard settings many times. I have swapped languages. I have just installed iOS16.1. But no matter what I do, the predictive text does not seem to be learning from me anymore. It's been several weeks now.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response. I have tried multiple restarts with no success.

In answer to your question:

"I", "The" and "I'm" display before I start typing. Even though I very rarely start typing with any of these words. For example I used to have "Hey" and "Hi" displayed there. However now, after several weeks of typing "I", "The" and "I'm" are still the only options at the start.
I believe this started happening after installing iOS 16 for the first time on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and then carried over once I moved to my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Interesting, my iPhone 11 Pro Max which has been restored from a backup from an entirely different phone is displaying the same issues. This is what makes me think there might be a bug more so than something wrong with my particular phone.

Hi CarlP,

You've done some great troubleshooting so far. Although simple, restarting can refresh the software and help with some issues, so restart both devices and test them out.

If the issue persists, reply with the answers to these questions:

Do you see suggestions for "I", "The" and "I'm" if you start a text with a totally unrelated word? For example, if you start typing "Apple," do you still see suggestions for those words?
Do you recall anything significant happening before this behavior began? Did it start after an update? After a new app was installed or something else?

Hey CarlP,

That's good info, and based on what you've mentioned so far and the steps you've taken up to this point, it might be time to Get Support directly from Apple, as they'll be able to look into this much more deeply than we can here. That path will probably be the best bet moving forward.
