No video playback when connected to an external monitor via HDMI (Audio ok)

I have a 2019 Macbook Pro 15 Inch.

I'm taking some courses on Udemy, and I really benefit from extra desktop space.

I am connecting my MacBook to an external monitor via HDMI, but whenever I want to play video from the site, I am not able to see any video playback.

Audio is fine, no issues whatsoever, it's only the video that seems to be affected.

I have tried using different web browsers, and even changing the "Automatic GPU switching" on my system preferences, but nothing seems to change.

The only way I can keep working normally is by unplugging the monitor, and just working with my built-in monitor.

Hi TheOriginalEdy,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you're not able to see a specific website from your external monitor. There are a few things you can do to address this behavior.

1. Close the lid on your Mac notebook computer to put it to sleep.
2. Connect the power adapter to your Mac and a power outlet.
3. Reconnect your Mac to an external display.
4. Connect a USB keyboard, mouse, or trackpad to your Mac.
If you’re using a wireless keyboard, mouse, or trackpad, make sure it’s turned on.
5. Wait a few seconds, then press any key on the external keyboard, or use the mouse or trackpad, to wake your Mac.

If you can’t see your Mac desktop on an external display

Regards.
