A software update is required to connect to iphone won't install
I get a message that I need a software update to connect my iphone to my Mac. Update downloads but won't install.

Yes, and when I check my iPhone 8, it says my iOS us up to date: 16.0.3. I also just updated to the latest Mac OS, Monterey 12.6, with a clean install, so everything is fresh. What gives?
Why is Apple always so cryptic. How about telling us what software, and why it won't install. Give us something to go on.
