My Apple Watch has weird behavior when turning on the screen. When raised the screen is dimly lit and after a second it goes up to normal brightness. The same when I touch the screen, the screen turns on and for one second the brightness is low and then after a second it goes to normal brightness. Always On Display is off.

Hi, I have the same issue too with my Series 8. But upon experimenting, I found out that when the brightness is set at low (level 1 of 3), this does not happen and only at medium and high levels of brightness (level 2 & 3 of 3), this behavior is noted
I understand that, but this was never the case with my Series 4. It seems like the Ambient Light Sensor is taking too long to evaluate how bright the room is. Additionally when the screen is off it takes two taps to wake it up which also wasn't the case in my Series 4, so it seems to me that it's a hardware issue.

I am facing the same issue on my SE 2022. I hope thats no hardware problem and will be fixed with a update.
Your watch has an Ambient Light Sensor and it's just taking a moment to adjust the light in the room.
