M1 Pro Macbook Pro - can't get 1920x1200 resolution on external HDMI monitor

This is a very very common monitor resolution. But for some reason I'm not seeing it as an option in the Display setting. Yes, I clicked the check box for "show all resolutions" (thank you apple for making that an explicit option now!!! I think you might be back on track to making products for professionals). I'd hate to have to install SwitchResX just get the correct resolution on these monitors (HP Z24x G2).

Hello chmed,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. To help troubleshoot this behavior, we recommend to follow each of the following steps:

  1. Verify that you have macOS 12.6 installed. You can check by going to the menu bar and selecting the Apple icon > About This Mac > select the "Overview" tab. If you're not updated to macOS 12.6, you can select "Software Update."

2. Hold down option and click on scaled in System Preferences > Displays to get the native resolution of most

displays. From there, let's see if you can select the resolution of 1920x1200.

Following these steps may help you and we look forward to hearing back with an update.

Kind regards.

that display:

DisplayPort

(1) DisplayPort 1.2 (1 input and 1 output)

HDMI

(1) HDMI 1.4

DVI-D

(1) Single link

I recommend you use a DisplayPort adapter and cable for best performance.

HDMI cables you want for HDMI-only Displays (higher resolutions than 720p TV sets) are marked as Certified with an anti-counterfeiting tag and are labeled:

"Premium High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "with Ethernet" --OR--

"Ultra High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "48G"

Cables with No Certification tags are good for your standard 720p TV set, and not much more.

Apple has begun reducing resolution for displays that throw errors in use. Marginal cables can do that.

¿what model-year and display size MacBook Pro?

Interesting. I have seen SDI error counting on some devices so I do know that there are often a lot of errors that pass right through without the end user ever knowing. But using a Thunderbolt adaptor instead of the HDMI kind of defeats the value of that HDMI that I fought hard for Apple to include on this unit.

M1 Pro Macbook Pro 14"- A couple weeks old. The "blowout" sale that Costco did when the M2 were announced.
