Mac Mail delays loading gmail content

MacBook Air M1, latest Monterey OS.

Lately, my Mac Mail app seems to have quite come delay synching the CONTENT (not headers) of my gmail e-mail. At times, I can see an e-mail, when I click on it, it does not show content. If I fully EXIT Mail, then restart, I usually see the content almost immediately.

I also use native Apple Mail both my iPad and iPhone, and NEVER experience such a problem.

Is there some setting I have not gotten right?

Hi ebertsj,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities! For starters, we suggest restarting the Mail app and your Mac. Restarting can fix many issues. Additionally, ensuring you have the most recent software version can also resolve what you're experiencing. If emails still don't seem to be loading, try rebuilding your mailbox:

"In the Mail app on your Mac, select a mailbox in the sidebar.
Choose Mailbox > Rebuild."

This will remove your emails from the Mail app and redownload them fresh from the server. We suggest having a backup of your data before performing this step. Find these steps and more about what occurs when you rebuild here: Rebuild mailboxes in Mail on Mac.

Thank you...as noted, whenever I notice this...most the time, I finally do a full restart, and indeed, this then allows me to see content "immediately" - odd I see no such issues or delays with my iPhone or iPad mail...may try the rebuild. Assume since am using Gmail (but NOT backing up my MAC e-mail to iCloud) should be protected from any inadvertent loss of data (that is, content will be restored from GOOGLE servers...
