Can't install any apps on my external ssd

Hi i recently bought my new MacBook Pro 14 (2021) and I want to install some apps for my works into my new external ssd. I formatted it as it is write into the apple support page that I found online, but the installer keep saying to me that the app cannot be installed into that ssd since macOS isn't running into that ssd. So I want to know if I have to install Mac os there in order to install all my apps there since my Mac is only 512gb internal storage. thanks for the help :)

Apps need to be installed in the /Applications folder on the boot drive. MacOS considers Applications an [added} part of macOS once installed, They become part of the separate Read-only Locked System Volume, and having them on that Volume extends modification protection to those newly-installed Applications, extending MacOS malware protection over them as well.

You should find something else to move to the external drive, such as your Documents folder, Downloads folder, or Pictures folder.
