Contacts on iCloud list after upgrade to iOS v16.0 - want the list back on the iPhone

Somehow, not quite sure how, my Contacts list is now showing that it's coming from iCloud, not my iPhone. It may be due to an abortive attempt to set up a group, which I have deleted from Contacts.

I cannot find a way to set it back to using the iPhone contacts instead of the iCloud contacts...please help.

I use iCloud for backups (obviously) and also want the iPhone Contacts to sync with the iCloud Contacts.

iPhone 12, iOS 16

It sounds like iCloud is set to your default to store your contacts as outlined under the "Set iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders as your default" section here:

If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support

You can change your default account in Settings > Contacts > Default account.
