which macos versions are compatible with ios16?

I just updated my phone, and now when I plug it into my computer, I get the "this phone is not compatible " message - basically implying that I should update the OS on my laptop.

I have applications that are only certified to run on certain OS versions, so I can't just "update to the latest" mac os.

Therefor, I need to know what version of OS is required to make this message go away. Surely there must be a chart somewhere that specifies which Macos versions are compatible with my IOS, but I can't find it.

I am currently running MACOS 12.3, IOS 16.0.2

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Greetings JakHay2,

You are running the latest release of macOS. However, there have been a few updates past 12.3. You'll want to begin by updating to the latest version of macOS 12, using the steps found here:

Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

"Update macOS on Mac

Use Software Update to install updates and upgrades for macOS and its built-in apps, including Safari.

  1. Before continuing, it's a good idea to back up your Mac.
  2. From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose System Preferences.
  3. Click Software Update in the System Preferences window. Can't find Software Update?
  4. Software Update now checks for new software.
    • If Software Update finds new software, click Update Now or Upgrade Now to install. You might be asked to restart or enter an administrator password.
    • If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then no new software is currently available for your Mac model."

You may also want to refer to the next resource, should you continue to experience issues.

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

Take care.

According to the system requirements for the iPhone 14 which ships with iOS 16, El Capitan, 10.11.6 is the minimum required Mac OS version needed. Your Mac should be compatible.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus - Technical Specifications - Apple

  • Apple ID (required for some features)
  • Internet access17

  • Syncing to a Mac or PC requires:
  • macOS Catalina 10.15 or later using the Finder
  • macOS El Capitan 10.11.6 through macOS Mojave 10.14.6 using iTunes 12.8 or later
  • Windows 7 or later using iTunes 12.10.10 or later (free download from itunes.com/download)

*You are running the latest release of macOS.*

I am running the latest major version, but not the latest minor version. I am on 12.3, and it seems there are 12.4, 12.5 and 12.6 versions available.

I need to know how far forward I need to go in order for the computer to think that it's compatible with the phone. Surely there is a matrix somewhere with this information. (?)
