.PART files keep appearing on my desktop

Hi. I'm relatively new to Mac OS, been using PC for years. I'm getting xxxx.jpg.part files appearing on my desktop pretty much every day.. sometimes 1, sometimes several. They're 0 bytes in size. The have no real comprehendible name. Not sure where they're coming from. Any ideas on how to track it down? I do take screenshots occasionally but don't notice anything appearing right away. Thanks in advance.

Never seen that.

.part files are parts of multi-file compressed images generally used for downloading large files.

I don't know of anything in macOS that makes them for any reason. I really don't know if Safari uses that, but don't think so. Regardless, unless you have changed the default location for downloads, it wouldn't go to the Desktop.

Are you using any software which downloads things to your desktop?

Hey Barney!

Thanks for your quick reply. That's what I'm to understand ~ that .part files are normally uncompleted parts of a downloaded file. 1) I'm not downloading any files that haven't completed, at least intentionally. 2) the files themselves are 0 bytes. I'm not using any software that downloads anything other than Chrome and occasionally download pictures from my google photos but they're all completed files but I did change the default location of my Screenshots to a folder on my desktop? I'm not even sure how I changed that. . .it was when I first got the MAC a month or so ago. . .

Uncompleted Safari downloads are suffixed, ".download," so, even if you were using that, it wouldn't be Safari.
