Facetime issues on IOS 16

Facetime video calls are not working ok on IOS 16 on my iphone 13 pro max. When I try to switch a voice call to a facetime video call, answer a facetime video call or most of the times when initiating a facetime video call, the phone is forcing LTE despite my Wifi is just fine!

Wifi Assist is Off.

The only way to have facetime use the wifi connection and not force the phone to LTE is to disable Cellular Data completely! I have reported this back in the public beta days and nothing!

Greetings mariusmuntean,

You’ve mentioned being part of the beta program. Are we currently working with the public release of iOS 16.0.2 on your iPhone?

Have you had an opportunity to test this while connected to multiple Wi-Fi networks? We ask this to be sure the Wi-Fi network isn’t restricting FaceTime/video calls. Do you have any VPN or security software installed on your device? If so, please temporarily remove it, test and let us know if there is any change.

Thanks.

Hi, I am running the public non beta release, not the beta. I have mentioned the Beta because I have noticed this problem since then and now, on the non-beta release is still there. My wifi is fine because the issue is not present on IOS 15.7 on the same network. I have this issue on IOS 16 only. I have even tried to reset the phone and set as New but the result was the same. The only way I can make Facetime use the Wifi is if I completely disable Cellular Data for the entire device, which is of course non sense

Hi, having the same issue in the family iPhones, we tried on the same wifi and on remote wifis too. in our case, no changes have been made to the wifi settings, this issue is simply present for us since the iOS 16 upgrade. This is surely not a wifi-router related issue.

Also, here we see that this is a non-singe-user issue, having spoken to Apple support on the chat, they said this problem is not known by Apple, it has not been reported.

I’m having the same issue. It’s definitely not my Wi-Fi because my iPad (which doesn’t even have cellular capability) works just fine and uses Wi-Fi for FaceTime. But anytime I try to FaceTime on my phone, it forces me to use LTE data. I’ve also tried it on numerous Wi-Fi networks with the same problem.

This is a big deal to me because I am currently stationed overseas and am using a phone data package that caps my speeds once I hit a certain threshold. I can’t be wasting all my data using LTE for FaceTime calls when I’m at home on my Wi-Fi.

Hey Apple, fix the basics.

IOS16.1 w iPhone13ProMax & iPadPro11”: I worked w Apple Support for several hours to discover why FaceTime no longer worked w my new iPhone13 and iOS16.1. We discovered that w my VPN installed, there is no FaceTime. All calls disconnected or failed to connect. The only way I can make FaceTime calls on the iPadPro11” is to completely delete my VPN app from BOTH my devices. I cannot simply turn the app off. Both apps must be deleted.

Which is a sad state for my iPhone. Of course Apple says it’s the VPN developer. The VPN Developer says it is Apple. So I keep the VPN membership, then install it whenever I travel or shop for extended times. FaceTime is such a convenient service when at home. I don’t want a second phone number account.

I just wish I understood what disconnects between FaceTime and my iPhone.
