Looks like I'm not the only one who has this problem, but no solution is found.
So, while iMac is in sleeping mode and notifications are coming, it makes a "knocking" sound.
The screen from black becomes dark blue, a mouse appears, and that sound.
Any idea?

what model iMac? do you have a solid state drive or an external drive or a combination of drives? if you have an external drive have you attempted to disconnect it and see if the knocking sound continues?
In any event if this is an Intel Mac see these steps for reseting the SMC and PRAM. My suggestion to you is to repeat SMC 3x and the the PRAM 3x and see if that does anything.

Disable Sleep, it’s unnecessary on later Macs, all pain, no gain. To disable, set your Energy Saver settings to as shown:
Separately, avoid manual sleep, use screen lock instead or let the display switch off/auto-lock on timer. For long or overnight absences, shut.
Ok, I think I need to add some information, pardon me. 🙄
Not really the sound is an issue in general. If you turn off the sound, it doesn't sound, but still, when the notification is coming, it kinda trying to wake up as the black screen becomes dark blue and the mouse shows up.

that is weird. I have an M iMac and I've never seen that, but I rarely get to use it and it rarely goes to sleep. SMC is performed every boot on an M1 so thats out of the equation.
someone else may have a better solution but if your Mac is less than 14 calendar days you can return it no questions asked (unless they ask you why is a boot embedded in the screen) but it might still be under warranty which you may need to call it in to Apple. Same, and it's an annoyance. Only does it when it's asleep and only when an email, text or other notice comes in. I have the Apple M1 Max chip as well. Not sure it bothers me enough to do anything about it but since I have to Apple Care + and I have to go to Apple Store anyway I'll likely address it.
