Garageband 10.3.5 "open recent files" is empty

Using Catalina... Garageband does not save my recently opened files. Also, under File there is not an option to open recent... as other threads have suggested I cannot find any file called com.apple.garageband.plist anywhere on my drive. I have also read someone saying re-adding themselves to the home folder helped, but I cannot find how exactly to do that.

Only using one disk drive. Can anyone help?
