Browser does not play media when switched to other apps (M1 air)

Can you tell us whether the app is in full-screen mode when this happens and you move to another space to interact with other apps? If you go back to the browser does it start playing again? Are you using Picture in Picture when in Safari? 

What we’d like to have you do, from Safari is visit the Apple Events website Apple Events - Apple, get one of the videos there rolling and then drop it into Picture in Picture and see if the issue persists when interacting with other apps. If the other apps are in full screen mode, test the situation out of full screen and see if it persists. Here’s how to get to Picture in Picture -  Play web videos in Safari on Mac 

Play a web video with Picture in Picture

1. In the Safari app on your Mac, navigate to the web video you want to play.

2. Click and hold the Audio button in the Smart Search field or in a tab.

3. Choose Enter Picture in Picture.

You can drag the window to any corner of the screen and the window stays put, even if you switch desktop spaces. You can resize the window to see more or less of what’s behind it. Click the Close button to close the Picture in Picture window.
