Audio Stutters When Browser is in Background

Browser based videoconferences will start to stutter and quickly get progressively worse if I tab away from the browser to another application. Tabbing back to the browser immediately restores the audio. This happens with a number of different browsers and a variety of conference services. I suspect the browser is getting starved of resources when it's not the foreground application. Has anyone else seen and resolved this?
