Flexgate issues with 2017 MacBook Pro (13inch with Touch Bar)

How many of you guys got it successfully serviced by apple for free? I understand it is not covered under the service program because apple refuses to admit they didn't fix the design flaw till the 2018 models of these badly engineered laptops. Regardless I am curious as my now laptop of over 4 years is an overpriced oddly shaped Mac mini with an intel chip from 2017 that is only useful with an external display and Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Did apple make any exceptions for you if not what were their reasons, if they did what different reasons did they give? should I get store credit and buy an iPad Pro or should I buy a windows machine? What is my best course of action because I am not paying apple a single penny to fix a computer that is no longer working just from normal use.

My daughter's 2017 Macbook Pro 15" just started doing the same thing too. Was quoted over $700 to repair! Apple representatives claim not know anything about 'flexgate'. This is our second laptop to experience this (previous one was a 2016 model, which we had to pay upfront for, then argue with apple to finally get our money refunded). Extremely disappointed of Apple's handling of this issue. They absolutely know about this issue. To claim otherwise is very disingenuous.
