A1707 Flexgate

I have an A1707 Macbook Pro 15" with Touchbar, 2016 model. Suddenly one day as I opened up the screen beyond 30 degree, the screen went blank/black. I think its the infamous FLEXGATE issue that has struck my Mac. Not just this, it has a few sticky keys & keypad backlight also vanished with the display.

I see so many customers reporting the same problems, therefore its a 100% manufacturing defect. In such a case Apple must include 15" models in the programme they had for 13". Apple has to take care of the manufacturing defect. Who is going to spend entire Mac's price on getting it repaired when its a known manufacturing defect. There's no damage to the laptop & its well kept but a piece of junk now & I can't do my important work that was doing on it.

Thanks. I contacted Apple service centre & asked them to quote costs involved in repairing. They said its a common problem with Macbook pro 15" 2016 & entire display would be changed which costs around half the price of the macbook. I didn't ask about keys & keyboard backlight issue after hearing the atrocious costs involved.


My moot point still remains, if its a known manufacturing defect & so many consumers have mentioned even here on the forum & elsewhere, the company should come up with a timely resolution as consumers won't feel great paying for company's fault. Have filled up the feedback form too but there has been no reply since. For a known manufacturing defect, FLEXGATE here, company has to solve it & they should do it without delays. As mac Pros are professional workstations, so important works of consumers facing the issue will suffer.
