Screen time turning itself off

So when I use screen time in my son’s phone after a few hours it turns itself off without warning. I have to periodically check my phone to make sure it’s still on which in my opinion defeats the purpose of screen time. I have read all the post about it and it seems to be an issue that isn’t resolved. I have restarted both devices as well as screen time and nothing changes. Is there a fix for this to where I can leave on screen time indefinitely if I wanted to??

Hey Titan241.

Something you may want to try is removing the user in question from the Family Sharing group and then adding them back and setting up Screen Time again. Here's a few different ways that this can be done based on the device you're using:

" On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap your name, then tap Family Sharing.
  3. Tap the name of the family member that you want to remove.
  4. Tap Remove [your family member's name] from Family.
  5. iPhone showing Remove Karina from Family.

On your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Family Sharing.
  2. Click Details next to the name of the family member that you want to remove.
  3. Click Remove [your family member's name].

If you're using macOS Mojave or earlier, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences > iCloud, then click Manage Family. Click the name of the family member that you want to remove, then click the Remove (—) button in the bottom-left corner."

This info comes from the Leave Family Sharing page. If this doesn't work, Get Support directly from Apple using this link for more steps. Apple Support

Hey Titan241,

Screen Time and parental controls shouldn’t turn off on its own. Are you using a Screen Time passcode so that only you can change the settings and turn the feature off? If not, do so using the steps in the following link. The steps can vary based on whether or not you’re using Family Sharing:

Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue is still occurring after that, make sure his iPhone is up to date. Keeping iOS update can often resolve issues as well. You can read how do this here:

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now.

Update your iPhone or iPad

Then review this article make sure you get the most out of parental controls:

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Take care.
