is there a way to restore messages onto new upgraded phone if the messages were not backed up? i really need those messages i thought it was backed up everything else got backed up but the messages

I usually have messages marked to backup but it didn’t have it marked when I upgraded is there a way to recover even though it wasn’t clicked
