X mobile or x home

Sounds like you've got some questions about what you're seeing in the Contacts app. We'd be happy to help.

Since you can set both a mobile and a home number for your contacts, if you're seeing this under a contact name in say the Phone app, this lets you know whether you received from or sent a call to their mobile number or home number.

If the incoming number does not match anything in Contacts, then your carrier determines who the call is from.

What you are seeing is the name your carrier determined is associated with the number calling. That "X" is part of the listing your carrier has.
