Can water damage the screen or reduce its sensitivity?

I clean the screen of my iPhone which is not equipped with tempered glass using a wet cloth, can the water from the wet cloth damage the screen?

Water damage iphone 11 I poured some water on my iPhone 11. The phone is fairly new and all I did was pour some water on the top of the phone (not the speakers). About an hour later I noticed some water in the screen so I turned it off and left it to dry overnight out of its case with no SIM card but it only got worse in the morning. Does anyone know how to solve this? (My phone with a white background)

I never use a wet cloth over any electronic devices.
