"distnoted" shows up in Activity Monitor with up to 12 entries and the mouse pointer flips back to the start point when I scroll the sidebar to the beginning of the listing of distnoted in Activity Monitor.
The next time I look at the Activity monitor distnoted is only one entry and the mouse pointer pulls the scrollbar normally.
Do I have a virus?

Reboot the Mac and compare your results...
