Siri in CarPlay, responding to itself

Hello,

I have an issue with CarPlay and Siri whereby Siri appears to turn the microphone on too early and respond to itself. Probably best illustrated with an example:

Me: “Send a message to Dave”

Siri: What would you like your message to say

Me: “Hello Dave”

Siri: Your message to Dave says “say Hello Dave”…Would you like me to send it

Siri: Ok I’ve sent your message (note no reply from me)

So Siri is hearing itself say the word “say” and adding it to my message. It is then sending the message after asking me without me replying because it is hearing itself say “send message”.

This only happens with CarPlay. I can get around it by turning Siri down however, I then struggle to hear it since Apple started quietening and saying “uh huh”, rather than muting what was already playing with a Chime.

Help appreciated.

Hello WazBrown,

We would like to see how we can help you with CarPlay and Siri. Which iOS version are you currently running? Go to Settings > General > About for the version. Are you connected with a wired connection? Check out some solutions in this link: If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support

  1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
    • If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    • If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled under Settings > Wi-Fi and Settings > Bluetooth.
  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
  5. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
  6. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

Cheers!

WazBrown, We appreciate you keeping us posted.

If possible, we recommend that you test if the issue persists while a different iPhone is paired with your vehicle.

Another way to isolate the issue is to test you iPhone with a different vehicle.

If the issue is isolated to your device, we recommend that you reach out to us here so we can take a closer look into the issue: Get Support
