Loading Circle in iMessage instead of showing message

I switched from android to a new iPhone 12 mini and when I used the iOS migrate, I opted to have it move my text messages as well.

I am able to send and received messages, but when I open a contact, the message disappears and is replaced with a spinning wheel.

My phone is up to date and I tried to reset iMessage.

If an app is not working as expected on your iPhone, begin by restarting your device using the steps found here:

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, or 13

Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."
