Unable to determine current location at this time

I noticed that my time zone was set incorrectly, so I checked Location Services and I think there is an issue with them. I can't get my MacBook Air M2 (16|256GB) to be able to determine my location, whatever I try. First of all I updated to the latest Mac OS available (Monetary 12.5) but that didn't solve the problem. All the settings seem to be set correctly (Location Services enabled from Security & Privacy, all "System Services are allowed to determine your location" boxes checked, WiFi is connected and online). I have restarted and shut down my MacBook more than enough times and I also booted in Safe Mode, but I can't get the issue fixed. No app or service that needs to know my location works correctly (Date & Time, Find My Mac, Maps, Google Maps etc). I also owns an iPad 9th generation and same issue happening there, it is also not able to fetch the location in any of the apps, and unable to fetch the time zone either. Any ideas? This is totally frustrating that two apple devices I own are having the same issues. Thank you all in advance.

Hi, Thank you for the quick response, It's not just about the time issue, It appears both iPad and MacBook Air M2 I own unable to use any location services, (Apple Maps, Google Maps, Find My), as soon as I open browser based location app or google maps, I am being greeted with a pop up that says, location couldn't be found.

Frustrating thing is, this is not about the Wifi, I own windows laptop and Android Mobile, both of those devices able to use locations services and maps. So this is quite unpleasing why can't apple devices unable to use locations services, even if I did everything I can from the internet (Enable Locations settings in Privacy settings, updated to Latest MacOS and iPad OS, tried switching to different WiFi networks).

Someone raised the same issue, but there also I didn't see an answer to the issue. It's a very similar to my issue, both iPad and MacBook Air (silicon chip) are not working with locations services.

Thank You for the quick response.

Yes, I tried running below command and I can confirm that it is a new Mac and to my knowledge I never installed anything yet, that includes VPN.

sudo sntp -sS time.apple.com

It corrected my time, immediately, but the locations services are still not working, I restarted after running this command but still the same issue, I tried checking on the safe boot mode but the issue still persists.

I tried location services disabled -> restarted the machine -> enabled the location services -> still not working.

Location services are enabled and in apps (Maps and Find My, Google Maps) I am not getting any error regarding enable location services, but they are not just working. Very unpleasant experience. Not comparing, I am new to Mac world, my 300$ cheap windows laptop I bought 7 years ago can work with locations services and locate me where I was in Maps, but my premium MacBook Air M2 can't.

And another thing I noticed was location icon is not appearing on the status bar (top right corner) at all. I indeed enabled the option in the settings

Any Inputs are welcome.

old iisue, new issue, what changed...(?)

if it is a server issue, then I would simply try again later and compare your results. Server issue are beyond your control.

If you need to re-establish sync with the "time server" you can from the Terminal.app copy & paste:

sudo sntp -sS time.apple.com

(please note: your psswd will not echo on screen type it in anyway, to proceed use the enter\return key.)

you can always toggle off automatic and use the manual setting — and compare your results.... no harm there.

🤣

Then follow my advise from your reference link above....

Time server is integral to location services...

If you are using a VPN— disable it and try again.
