Apple TV issue

I just got a brand-new Apple TV and the remote will not charge. Why?

Charge for 2.5–3 hours using the Lightning-to-USB cable to a computer USB port or to a power adapter in an AC socket. There are no changing indicators on the remote itself. You have to read the charge level on screen in Apple TV Settings.
