apfs start drive doesn't backup on Mojave Time Machine

Hi,

Mojave and Time Machine. I have several external drives all get backed up in TIME Machine except my boot drive APFS. I have had all functioning including the boot drive until I understood that with a complete backup and the automatic backup checked for TM, I couldn't make a restart, I always had to force a shut down. Total clean Disk Utility of backup drive, but to no avail. I have now excluded the APFS boot drive from being backed up, and all works.

Question ; Why doesn't the boot drive get backed up ?

Anyone had the same problem ?

Thanks in advance

Ragnar G

In the past CleanMyMac has been the source of many problems.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Uninstall CleanMyMac per their directions , then run etrecheck again to see what chaff it left...

Ah, OK.

We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

I have checked if any fire vault or firewall is on. They are not

In users checked that no log in items are present ( found disk Warrior which is incompatible with APFS) Nothing there now

Have booted in Safe Mode

Have after that cleaned the TM backup drive an reformatted.

Have tried to back up the boot dive after restart but unfortunately the drive will not get backed up - as before

as mentioned yesterday Etrecheck finds system "GOOD"

At this moment backing up sequentially my external drives without problem

The original issue persists
