i recently bought my phone from verizon and when purchasing the salesman told me i couldn’t use my old chargers because it would damage my phone. is this true? i like to use my phone in my car and the only way my apple car play works is with my old charger because they changed the usb type.

The Verizon salesperson is either very mistaken, or lying to sell an accessory. It is quite fine to use an existing Lightning cable and appropriate charge cube.
