iMac 2020 Crash with Second Monitor

Why does my 2020 iMac frequently crash and randomly shut-down when using a second monitor, in my case, an older Thunderbolt Display?

Sounds like the old display maybe bad or has a bad cable harness.

2020 iMac with second monitor crashes I've been using my 2020 iMac as a primary machine and recently connected a 27" LG monitor as a secondary. It's been working fine. All of a sudden the entire system began crashing so I'm thinking it has something to do with my installation of Sonoma/ 14.1. Any thoughts on that?

Is my new second monitor crashing my iMac? Since I bought a new second monitor, my imac has been crashing colorfully. Could I be asking too much of its GPU? Or could the USB-C connection be the culprit? (I don't have to swim far to get out of my depth in these waters, so forgive me if it should be obvious!)
