iMessage ‘you are currently sharing your location from this device’

Hi,

in iMessage, when I open a contact (another iPhone user with iMessage enabled) by tapping their name, I used to have a note that said, ‘you are currently sharing your location from this device’. There was a link that said ‘share location’, which I assumed would open ‘find my’ when I tapped on it. However, when I tapped the link, it simply disappeared. How do I get the link back?

In ‘find my’, my ‘share location’ is turned off. Am I sharing my location with this contact when I have location services enabled, or does it simply allow me to share my location in a message when I type ‘my location’ in the body of a text?

Thanks!

iPhone SE, iOS 15

Hi ipodrogue,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. If you hit "Share My Location" in Messages, you are given the option to share your current location with that contact for a specified period of time. Once the time frame has elapsed, you are no longer sharing with that person. If you want to share your location at all times, the steps are found via the Apple Support app: Find friends and share your location with Find My - Apple Support

"Share with people

  1. Open the Find My app and select the People tab.
  2. Select Share My Location or Start Sharing Location.
  3. Enter the name or phone number of the person you want to share your location with.
  4. Select Send.
  5. Choose to share your location for One Hour, Until End of Day, or Share Indefinitely.
  6. Select OK."

Let us know if you have any questions.

Best regards!
