OS utilities iMac 2011

Mac OSUtilities only offers to restore to to OSX Lion, but when I select that option, it will not restore because it says I have a newer version installed. So I only have the option to restore from a Time Machine backup with all the issues I was trying to correct. Ideas?

Let's start at the beginning. What is your goal here? A 2011 iMac is considered extremely old now and the last version of Mac OS it will run is 10.13.6 High Sierra. If you are attempting to update to HS then please use How to get old versions of macOS.

As a general rule, the longer you hold onto obsolete out-of-date computers the more issues you are going to run into. If the computer is running okay, then please leave it alone and just use it. Another option is consider replacing it with a more up-to-date Mac, the new 24" iMacs are far faster better than your current device. If you do consider upgrading please get one with 16GB of RAM and the largest capacity SSD you can afford.

Thanks again for your reply. I’m aware of all you mention, I own 12 pieces of Apple and have been all Apple for over 15 years. This old machine I only want to use for Internet, email and running some software like XL and word. The problem I’ve been having is that the computer shuts down on its own and restarts. So I was trying to avoid that problem. With a few options left to me, I erased the hard drive, did a repair check, and now the only thing it appears I can do is to reload from a time machine back up, which may result in the same old problems. I do appreciate your replies
