FCPX: SRT subtitle format causing subtitles to be way outside title safe area, is this normal???

When I use the SRT format for subtitles in Final Cut Pro X, the program places the subtitles way too low on the screen, in fact outside the title safe area. Is this normal? There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust this with SRT.

I would not worry about that, for two reasons.

The main reason is that placement of captions is completely dependent on the application and platform where the video is played. Wherever they are placed while playing back in FCP is not stored anywhere and has absolutely no effect on how they are displayed in the eventual destination.

The second reason is that title safe areas, while they can still be used as a guideline, were really significant in the days of analog broadcast and CRT tube television sets, where overscan had to be taken into consideration. Not such a big deal when the full frame is visible.
