I fixed mine by unplugging the television for 2 minutes & then plugging back in. Worth a try. It has continued to work since then.

To help with the sound issue, ensure your TV model is listed in the article here: Apple TV app - Devices
If listed and the issue remains, test with a different language or other content in the app. Control what’s playing in the Apple TV app
You can also remove the app completely and redownload to test.
If the issue remains, let us know if you use the Apple TV app on any other devices and if the sound works as expected there.

thank you for your response. The Apple TV app has worked perfectly fine with my tv for over a year. Out of the blue the sound does not work.
Yes my Sony tv is listed. Sound does not work no matter what the content or language selected. Every other app on the tv works, just not the Apple TV app. The option to remove the app & re-download is not available. I did do a reset which required me to sign back in - but that didn't help.

Thanks for providing those additional details. Based on the information you've provided, and steps you've gone through, the next best option would be to reach out to Apple Support directly from this link here: Get Support - Apple
From that link you'll want to select Choose a product > Apple TV > Apps > Help with Apple TV app. From there select Continue, and you should see a few options to reach out, depending on your location.

I have determined that the app will not work with my sound bar. If I turn the sound bar off & use the television sound, it works. I believe it's only become an issue after the latest update of the Apple TV app. hopefully they will fix it with the next update. The Hulu app used to have this issue but it was resolved.
I'm also having this same issue. Just bought the a Sony Bravia XR-77A80CK on 8/4/2022.
Apple TV app has no audio with external HDMI eARC on HDMI 3. Using a SoundSend WISA transmitter. All other apps and external input from HDMI 4, Apple TV 4K (2nd Gen) work excellent. This includes Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
So just the Apple TV app on the TV itself. I also suspect a software update broke the audio in the app, but I have not had this TV long enough to know that. Based on the above report that makes sense and is not uncommon.
I tried switching to internal speakers but the TV keeps switching back to external. The Apple TV app briefly emitted sound on the internal TV speakers just before the TV switched to external. So I'm sure that audio works on internal speakers.
Lucky for me the Apple TV itself connected to HDMI 4 works awesome.
I'll give it a shot. That's an easy try. I'll post what I find after, but it will be a few days as I'm out of town.
