Add a Face does not work in MacOS 12.4 (21F79) Photos

The Add a Face instructions do not work in MacOS 12.4 (21F79) Photos.

The new circle for a face CANNOT be dragged

"People: ... identify multiple people ... click the Add button and drag the face identifier over each person you want to identify" does not work. Instead a smaller view of the photo is dragged around the photo

Hello rwzpv,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We see you viewed the Apple Support page for Get help with the Photos app on your Mac - Apple Support

It sounds like you're using these steps to identify people in a photo:

"Manually identify and name people in a photo

Some photos may contain people who are not automatically named. You can name them manually.

  1. In the Photos app on your Mac, double-click a photo to open it.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Choose View > Show Face Names. Click the name (or click “unnamed”) under a face, type a name, then press Return (or choose a name that appears as you type).
  • Click the Info button in the toolbar. Click the Add button, drag the circle to position it over the face if necessary, click the Name field, type a name, then press Return.
    • You can click the Add button multiple times to identify multiple faces in a photo. To remove a name that you added to a face, click the Remove button on the person."

Does the issue persist after a normal restart of your Mac? Are you able to test in a test user account to see if it's a software related issue?

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

The problem is, that the focus is on the Info, after adding a faces circle. This problem started with macOS 10.15 Catalina and is still reoccurring occasionally.

There are a few work-arounds:

  • Close the info panel after adding the faces circle, then you can drag it and adjust the size of the faces circle.
  • Or click into the background of the photo outside the circle after adding the faces circle. Then you should be able to drag the circle.
  • Or type a name into the name field, even with the circle in the wrong position. Then you can drag the named circle to the correct face.

If none of this works, close Photos and restart it. Then the naming may work as intended for a time. Sometimes I have to restart the Mac.

You may want to send feedback to Apple that the problem still persists: Feedback - Photos - Apple

Did you even read the post? At no time in your rambling incoherent response did you even come close to helping. May God have mercy on your soul!

I came to this post because I have the same problem. Your answer to the OP's problem is inane. They didn't ask how to add a face. They stated a problem with they encountered while trying to add a face. They gave you step by step what they've tried and how it failed. You never once acknowledge any of that. I can't believe you thought your response was going to help. Your post must be a practical joke or a dare. Please don't respond to question/problems like this. If this is the best you can do, then I feel very sorry for you.
