What do I need to connect a USB-c ( ipad Pro ) to the Thunderbolt connector on a 6.1 Mac Pro

When I try to connect my iPad Pro to my 6.1 Mac Pro I can only use USB-C to USB-A connections. When I search for connectors on the internet I get all manner of adverts for Thunderbolt-3 but not Thunderbolt-1. Even then the offers show female connects for Thunderbolt and not the male version I need. OR is there a way of swapping the Thunderbolt connection for Thundebolt-3 on the Mac Pro?

It appears the iPad Pro's (5th gen) model does support both Thunderbolt & USB protocols according to MacTracker and the Apple product page. In that case you would need to use an Apple USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter along with the appropriate older style Thunderbolt cable to connect between the adapter and the older Mac.

The older models do not support the Thunderbolt protocol, so you will only be able to utilize the USB protocol on those models.
