How old is the watch? You may have damaged the watch at some point defeating the watch's water resistance and it has been water damaged.

M1 Mac mini, macOS 12.4; Watch, series 5 GPS/cellular, watchOS 8.6; iPad Pro 2nd Gen, iPadOS 15.5; iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 15.5; TV 4th Gen, tvOS 15.5; HomePods, audioOS 15.5 and Airport Express w/ Airplay 2

Ok, I see what you were saying. Because water damage is not covered by the warranty, even though the watch still had one month of warranty, the water damage would make it an out-of-warranty repair.

It is my understanding that Apple doesn't actually repair Watches, they just replace them under warranty.

It is also my understanding that Apple would have sold you an Watch in the out-of-warranty situation for less than the cost of buying a new watch at retail.
