Blocked sender mail not moved to trash when preferences appear correct

On iPhone iOS 15.5, with Mail/Blocked Sender Options set to "Move to Trash" and email addresses of Blocked Senders in the Blocked list, the blocked emails remain in the Inbox, showing the red blocked icon. Other information:

  1. The Blocked senders were actually added on the Mac running Monterey 12.4 with the Blocked setting of "Move it to the Trash" there. The Mac only differs in that the blocked sender email goes into the Junk mail folder. It is not moved to the trash there either.
  2. Not sure how the blocked senders from the Mac are synced to the iPhone, but they did show up marked as blocked on the iPhone. In iCloud settings, Contacts are synced, in case that's the mechanism.
  3. The Blocked senders list has dozens of entries, mostly spam phone numbers blocked over several years and just 5 email addresses.
  4. Checked the Previous Recipients list in the Mail app on the Mac, the addresses were not there.
  5. There are 4 email accounts set up but no iCloud mail. The email account receiving the unwanted mail is a pop mail account and set to "Move Discarded Messages into: Deleted Mailbox".

Tested on another iPhone running 15.5, but without setup to a corresponding Mac and no syncing of Contacts to iCloud and email from a Blocked Sender was moved immediately to the Trash as expected.

Doesn't seem like the "Move to Trash" is working when linked to a Mac....how can I fix it?

Thanks,

KV
