iCloud drive not syncing properly

I have an Excel file that I use to track hours. I normally update it on my iPad but I just opened it on my iMac and it's a version from months ago. How does this happen? If I can't trust iCloud should I use a different service?

No ICloud sync after since Sonoma 14.1. There is no ICloud sync on my IMac since having installed Sonoma 14.1. Unfortunately, no change after 14.1.1. either. Apple should not sell any device until it is unable to resolve such fundamental concerns ! I have long conversations (55 minutes several times a week) with customer service reps who do not even know Apple devices. I cannot find words. What does Apple say about Sonoma 14.1.1.? It resolves the issue where snowing is not shown in weather app. Snowing ??? What about ICloud issues? I have different version of files on every single apple device.

iCloud Drive not syncing files across devices Hi Apple Community! We have a couple Macs, iPhones and iPad, all have been updated to the latest operating systems. We are heavy users of iCloud Drive and have enabled Advanced Data Protection. We are multiple users with our own Apple IDs and we share folders on iCloud Drive. Just in the past days we've noticed instances where iCloud Drive files on one device are not up to date. Rebooting the device gets the files to sync, but this is concerning because we might unknowingly be using an old version and even worse end up with data inconsistencies. Thanks!

iCloud for Windows sync If I add or modify a file in my iCloud Drive, I don't see that it instantly recognizes the change, but every hour only. Why ? Thank you.

Ensure that you're opening the same file from the same file location (eg. iCloud Drive versus another folder).

Yup, that was my first troubleshooting step. Double and triple checked.
