just got new laptop. downloaded itunes. previously had itunes on old laptop. tried connecting my iPod classic to sync and lost all music and unable to sync to iPod
how can I retrieve lost music and syn to iTunes? Thank you.

If you don't have the old laptop or a backup then see Recover media from an iPod - Apple Community. You may be able to recover the deleted files from the classic with a suitable unerase tool.

You copy your itunes media library from old laptop to new laptop.
