Perhaps this article will help:

If your Apple Watch isn't connected or paired with your iPhone - Apple Support

You best option may be to take them to the Genius Bar in an Apple Store and let them look at it. If that is not possible, use the online Apple Support. Either way:

Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
