My 2 iMacs (macOS Catalina; Version 10.15.7) do not show a choice of "Play sound on startup" on the Sound Effects menu. On one iMac the opening crash chime sound is turned off. How do I turn it back on?

On the iMac with no start up chime, run this command in the Terminal…

sudo nvram StartupMute=%00


If that doesn't work for some reason, reset NVRAM.
