Big Sur checking for updates runs forever

How do I update the software if the "checking for updates ..." runs nonstop?

Mac Mini 2014

Big Sur 11.6.1

Suggestion - the Apple Servers have been having issue for a while now in regards to Software Update Applet.


Restart in Recovery Mode Command + r and choose to Reinstall macOS.


Yes, this appear old but do see others with similar issue as this one.


It will in theory bring down the latest version 11.6.3 and install.


It should not touch preferences personal files an applications.


A Time Machine Backup  is very useful and can be used to Revert to Previous Working macOS. Before attempting the above
