Can a keyboard be replaced? For example, I have a macbook purchased in Mexico but want to change it to an American keyboard and system for easier typing.

Some models at least would require the entire Top Case replaced with touch pad

and keyboard & more. Often a battery that is glued in position would be involved.

Perhaps this project can be prohibitively costly. You've not specified the build model

MacBook (early 2006-2010) or later MacBook 12-in Retina; or MacBook/Air, MacBook

/Pro; as each evolved over time.

Identify your MacBook model - Apple Support

You can find similar information for MacBook /Pro and MacBook /Air.

Good luck & happy trails! ☺︎

..elaletz:

PS: depending on the specifics, there may be an easier way

around that; instead of changing the keyboard: in settings?

Or perhaps, change all key-caps; those are available separately.

Those are often 'individually replaceable'. ~ Or one of these:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=silicon+keyboard+protector+skins+macbook+air+2018+with+imprinted+keys&t=ffab&ia=web

(When display is open, a temporary keyboard cover with all key

details on it, can help you use it. And remove the cover before

you close display/lid. ~ That way no damages happen.)

The age of the unit and costs, seem like a high price to change

how you'd use the keyboard. + That's mostly superficial at best.
