Just bought a late 2013 iMac intending to use garageband but sell updated to Catalina OS and GB not on drive and can't download!!!! How can I download it as I can't update to OS11.

I am afraid that the only way to get older versions of Garageband from the App Store is to have already downloaded it. There is no easy way for you to get Garageband. You need a Mac that can run Big Sur.
