big sur turn off start up sound

I've selected start/System preferences and toggled Play sound on startup to off several times but it keeps playing it.

Any ideas on what to do?

Is related to this profile " MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.3 " this computer is out dated and should be updated to the most recent Big Sur 11.6.1 which brings bug fixes and Security fixes too.

Try in Terminal: sudo nvram StartupMute=%01

The sudo command will require you to enter your password.
