how do i install big sur on my MacBook air

i am having trouble installing Big Sur on my MacBook air...first it said I don't have enough memory and now it says it can't install on mac hd. What should i do?

macOS Big Sur won't finish installing Hi Im not very good with IT so sorry if my questions sound stupid. Im trying to install BigSur (have Catalina atm) but it won't finish installing. I get a message saying unable to install on Mac HD - but no option to put it elsewhere either (not sure whether I should be able to). Having trouble with installing macOS Big Sur I am having trouble installing macOS Big Sur on my MacBook air. I have enough storage but it just says that "macOS Big Sur can not be installed on my harddrive"? Can anyone help me with this?
