Macbook Air access scanner says no permission to open and to contact administrator

Hi, I have a new Macbook Air and have had no trouble printing. When I tried the scanner, I got the "You don't have permission to open the application "Brother Scanner". Contact your computer or network administrator for assistance" message. My printer/scanner is a Brother_DCP_1610W Any suggestions?
