How do you stop apps from opening at log-in? I have right clicked on the icons in the dock and deselected open at lock in still no results.

How do you stop email, messages, and apple news from opening when you log in to your iMac 27? I have deselected open at log in under options from the icon and that has not worked . I have also tried to hide therefrom the system preferences Users and Groups and that has not worked either.

When Restarting or Shutting Down, make sure the checkbox for that is not checked.

Hello, Richard Ambelang.

You don't want to just "Hide" those startup items in System Preferences > Users & Groups. You want to remove them from the list of login items. Select the login item and click the minus button ( – ) below.

Also when you Shut Down... or Restart... your Mac you will be prompted to "reopen windows when logging back in". Make sure the box is un-check marked.

And make sure that all your apps are closed when you do shut down or restart to eliminate the potential of them opening again at login.
