How can I display the battery level indicator on the menu bar?

After contacting Apple Support, I was advised by them to upgrade from High Sierra to Mojave, to resolve the problem of the battery level not displaying on the menu bar. This has not solved the problem of the battery level indicator not displaying. In desperation I searched through Apple help pages and was advised to reset the SMC.

I carefully followed the instructions given, and was pleased that the desktop Mojave sand-dune appeared when I pressed the power button, showing the battery indicator level at the top right of the screen. However, when I entered my password to start using the computer, my desktop was displayed with all the dock and desktop icons showing, but the battery charge indicator was not there.

How can I get it to display, as it used to in the past? Apple Support does not help me. Please help.

For Power Adapter & Battery: not sure [actually] I have always left mine at the default settings.

Never seems to be a problem.

Using the default settings will [probably] reduce energy consumption & extend the battery life:

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Energy Saver,

Check the box "Show battery status in menu bar":

Thanks so much balsa2.

Maybe my problem was that under Power Adapter I had ticked 'Prevent computer from sleeping...' , as well as the other three tick boxes. I have now unticked it and the display is showing on the menu bar!! Also, I see you have 'Turn display off after:' set at 15min. Mine is set at 3 hours. Is this likely to be a problem? Do you recommend 15min?

Under Battery, I have ticked 'Put hard discs to sleep...' and 'Slightly dim the display...' , but have not ticked 'Enable power nap...' Here the 'Turn display off after:' is set at 2min. Is this OK or should I make it perhaps 10min? Would you recommend the settings that I have, or do you suggest any changes to improve things?

Many thanks, that problem is now resolved. However a new problem has now arisen. The computer keeps shutting down for no reason and I have great difficulty in booting up again. Are you aware of where I can find a solution to this new problem?
