Activity rings fireworks

Hello,

I recently got an Apple Watch series 6. Today i closed the all activity rings for the first time. When i closed the rings i didn’t get the fireworks animation any of the times that i closed a ring today. Previous days when i had closed the stand ring i had got a animation for that ring. The reason my be because i updated to watchOS 7.1 from 7 but i don’t know.

I would very much appreciate your help

Thanks,

Matti8u

I believe I cracked the code of why the fireworks won't show when you complete the three rings, at least in my case. It is not simply a bug. It is a systematic design failure that's too subtle for Apple to notice and fix.

First of all, I have turned on all settings that should allow the fireworks to show. So it's not about the settings.

The real reason is that, when you complete all three rings, if you also have a streak record, or achieve a 200% 300% or 400% move goal completion, the systems sends out an additional notice along with the three-ring completion notice, which cancels the fireworks.

That means, if you, for example, are on your longest streak of your workout, it's very likely that you won't see the fireworks because the system will rush to tell you that you achieve a streak before it tells you that you completed your three rings, and pooff... your fireworks won't show!

My own customized solution for to this is that, which is unfortunate, I set my Move goal to 10 calories a day, which is extremely easy to achieve, so that I can complete this goal and 200% 300% or 400% move goals in like an hour or so, as well as the longest streak, so that the systems sends out all these notifications way before I complete the rest of the rings. While my actual move goal is 600 calories a day. I then complete the stand and exercise goals later. I set the exercise goal as one hour, but I'll keep the timer of exercising even when it goes beyond one hour, until I burn 600 calories, and then I end the exercise. If by then I already complete my stand ring, then the system will show the three ring complete notice while playing the fireworks animation.

When in a workout and you achieve a ring and you look straight away it says that the ring is closed.

When not working out and you achieve a ring and you look straight away it will do the animation.

To get the fireworks

The only setting you have to have on is:

My watch » Notifications » Notification privacy toggled off

My watch » Notifications » Activity » Goal Completions toggled on

You have to look at your watch within 2-3 seconds after you feel the alert

Hello Matti8u.

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I had this same issue, and I was able to fix it by going to the Watch App on your iPhone, then go to the Notifications tab. Scroll down until you see Activity. Click on it and then make sure Goal Completion is set to on.

If this doesn't work, try restarting your Apple Watch: How to restart your Apple Watch

If you are still not receiving animation when you close rings, unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

It did take a good 2 days for mine to work. From what I can remember too, I think I turned my watch off and turned it back on as well. That may have gave it a jump start after the recalibration. Also I have noticed that when I’m walking, my green firework animation doesn’t show, it just says I’ve closed the ring. Same with the red when I’m in the middle of the walk and I hit it. I’ve only noticed the red ring firework working when I’m not working out.

I never use any of those settings, but the rings still intermittently do not show the animation.

The only way I have been able to get them to work for a couple of days is to:

  • Turn off iPhone + Apple Watch
  • Turn on iPhone and wait for it to fully boot and load up, unlock it.
  • Turn on your Apple Watch, unlock it.
  • Then the rings should work, for a couple of days.

This seems to work every time for me.

Also I have noticed, if you happen to get a notification at the same time (Which happens to me A LOT), It will cancel the ring animation..

Apple, please fix. We shouldn't have to do these steps on our very expensive watches in order to get regular features to work!

Let's try a restart to see if that helps: How to restart your Apple Watch

I have problems with my rings as well. I'm not sure if it's affected by the different watch faces though. From what I've gathered it seems that the fireworks show immediately when the goal is achieved and the notification pops up. So I have to be very quick and look at my watch the moment the notification is received. If I check the notification when its resting in the notification center I wont get the fireworks.

What I notice on my watch after all the suggestions:

  1. if you are actively using your watch ( workout app) or anything is opened on your phone, u get no fireworks, but only notification. I kind of think it beats the purpose. You want to use the workout app! So, i have not used my workout app, but try to close my green and red rings, and i have got the fireworks. My blue stand ring has been ok as that usually gets closed the last in the evening.
  2. I also turned off the notification privacy as suggested in this discussion and it works. Made sure the goal completion is on
  3. this morning I got the fireworks for closing the green ring without the workout app.
  4. yesterday, got all 3 without the app. Used workout app for outdoor walk after.

I did not do anything else to the watch like force restart, unpairing nor recalibrate.

Good luck. I will just keep watching this. Annoying process. Younspent all the money u want o

make sure it is working correctly.

Yup, thats the correct setting. However, it seems like the ring animation works only when you get one notification, like exercise goal reached, move ring closed, stand ring reached. Thats my situation anyways! Took me forever to personally figure this out, and i wasn't getting the red ring animation because i had move streaks, so i would get 4 notifications-move ring closed, longest move streak, and comes Sunday i would get 3 notifications which includes perfect move week, and the same with other rings, so animation never happens on Sunday. I pretty much sadly and intentionally ended my move streak to see what happens, and so right now i can live with no animation on Sunday. 😀 They still need to fix this. Animation needs to happen no matter how many notifications i get in regards to the activity ring. Thats my observation.
